In my experience with TRACE 700, I’ve noticed that many new users to TRACE, as well as some seasoned users, have trouble with using room templates. That’s why I’ve put together this demo. In this demo, we take a really simple look at four rooms each having their own set of templates, and thus each having their own individual template. As you can already see, the rooms are color coded. This is simply done to illustrate the point.
If we start with four different rooms-- a classroom, an office, a gymnasium and an auditorium, you’ll notice that all four of the rooms are clearly different. The interior color represents the internal loads, the arrow represents the airflows, the envelope represents the room construction, and the squiggle represents the thermostat template.
Let’s say we have a hallway. In this case, the hallway has the same internal loads as the classroom, the same thermostat set point as the auditorium, the same airflows as the gymnasium, and the same construction type as the office. If you are unfamiliar with the template, you may very simply make an internal loads template, another airflows template, another construction template and another thermostat template, all with the title, “hallway,” and then put together a room template with all of these types. This would not be incorrect but it would require additional work.
Instead of creating four additional templates, we could use the already existing templates since the hallway uses bits and pieces of each room. In such a case, we would end up with a room template as such: the description would still be hallway, but each template would be selected from an already existing room type. This will save you time and energy.
