With most of us here being engineers, I know that some of you are going to get different answers than I am and it's going to drive you crazy. For that reason, I think it is a good idea that we go over exercise one step by step.
Start by opening TRACE 700 and selecting New, or, if you are already in TRACE 700, go to File, New, and select ‘New TRACE 700 file’. We are going to be prompted to give the new name. In this case we'll call it Exercise 1. To start, we want to make sure that we are in load design mode. So let’s go to Options, Operating Mode, and select ‘TRACE 700 Load 700.’ This will eliminate any unnecessary fields and prevent us from doing anything that’s not in the exercise.
Project and Weather Information
1:06
The next step is to click Enter Project Information, and here we are going to type, “Rapid City Elementary,” and click OK or the return key. Then, select the weather information. In this case we are going to select Rapid City, South Dakota and click the ‘Overrides ‘and we are going to select -12 as the ‘User Override for Winter Design Heating Dry bulb’. Select OK and we can select OK again.
Creating the Templates
1:54
Then, we can click Create Templates. We will start with the Thermostat Template because those were the first items listed. We could simply rename the default template since the values are all in place. Instead, click Copy and rename it the General Template. Then click Apply
Construction Template
2:24
The next details we'll enter are in the Construction Template. We'll click New, give it the description General, and for the Roof, we are going to down one and select 4 inch Lightweight concrete and 3 inches of Insulation (4” LW Conc. 3” Ins). For the wall, enter Face Brick, six inches of Lightweight concrete and 6 inches of Insulation(Face Brick 6” LW Concrete, 6” Ins). For windows and skylights we are going to enter Double Coated 1/4”.
It's important to note that in large drop down menus you can simply type the first letter of the intended library and TRACE 700 will navigate closer to that library member.
For the Wall Height, enter 12 as well as the floor-floor Height. For the Plenum Height, enter 3. At this point, click Apply and go to the Internal Loads Template.
