Equipment setup is very natural in the SD wizard, since the appropriate screens are displayed automatically. The DD wizard is very similar, but the process is not as linear.
As previously discussed, to “activate” the appropriate plant buttons, the corresponding system type must first be selected under the FIRST system listed. This lesson covers a number of possibilities. For simplicity sake, let’s start with one air-side system, and one building shell.
Before we get started, we need to differentiate the difference between systems and plants in eQUEST. Simply put, systems define airside components and plants define refrigerant side components. In, eQUEST, the exception to this rule occurs when modeling packaged air-cooled equipment, where the system and the plant are synonymous.
The default system type in eQUEST is a packaged DX unit. As a result, no plant buttons are enabled by default in the project navigator. We will start by modifying the default scenario.
To modify a system/plant combination, or packaged equipment.
1) Click edit Selected system (or double click the target system) 2) In the first screen, note the cooling type as “DX coils”, edit the heating type as necessary. Also, select the appropriate unitary equipment (ie, single zone, multizone) 3) Continue to the next screen and edit the standard parameters 4) At the “packaged HVAC equipment” screen, the heating and cooling efficiencies should be selected. Please note, the typical unit size is used to set the default efficiency. 5) If the size of the unit is pre-determined, specify the exact size. Else, leave auto-size enabled 6) Proceed to the next screen and enter the fan parameters. In the case of multizone systems, set the option for variable speed drives. Enter the fan static (used with flow to determin fan power) or enter the fan power in units of BHP. Also, enter the appropriate fan efficiency (High is appropriate for most new equipment) 7) Enter the options as known in the remaining screens. Fans typically run as “continuous” during occupied times. 8) Return to the navigator to make remaining changes.
