eQuest in Vista

Hello All,

I have just bought a new computer and am running eQuest in Vista. I have
followed the instructions posted to run eQuest as if in Windows 2000.

However, I'm running into an issue that is problematic: When I use the
regular explorer view to view my project files, any new documents created by
eQuest are not shown in the windows explorer. This means that I cannot open
.inp files, .pd2 files or hourly report files. When I'm in eQuest and open
a file, eQuest can see everything just fine. Any thoughts on how to remedy
this? I do need to view these file types!

Thanks for your help!

Hi All,

So I may have just answered my own question: When I reset the program
compatibility to Windows XP instead of Windows 2000, the problem was solved
HOWEVER, all projects I did before making this change are now not shown when
I open eQuest and select "Open Existing Project." I also needed to
re-download all weather files, etc. This is not a big deal, as I have only
created test files so far... let me know if you have any other suggestions.

I had this problem too. By default, Vista tries to protect the Program
Files folder and its subfolders from having one user making changes that
will affect all other users. So when eQuest tries to write a file to

C:\Program Files\eQUEST 3-6\Projects

the file system actually stores the file in

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\eQUEST
3-6\Projects .

(where "username" is the name of the user who is running the eQuest

Windows Explorer can only see the files where they actually live, but
older applications will be provided a file list by Vista that combines
the contents of the two folders.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for that suggestion! I also found that if you run eQuest as if on
Windows XP, it saves all files in the appropriate folder.
