Electric Peak Demand

I used the values found in the BEPU report to put in the online template.

Amy: Sounds like a simple mix-up.

The BEPU report displays annual consumption totals for each meter. The
PS-F reports by contrast include both consumption sums and demand values
corresponding to the hour of maximum draw for each end-use (scroll to the
bottom for annual peaks and consumption totals).

You might find it easier for documenting your first few LEED models to
reference the graphical end-use reports for consumption and demand ? that?s
how I started out:

This doesn?t sound like an issue with your electric rates. They are saying
that the actual peak demand that you reported in the LEED template does not
match the peak demand by end use stated in the PS-F report. What was the
source of the values you inputted in Table EAp2-5?

I received the following comment back from USGBC and was hoping someone
could help shed some light on this for me.

*Table EAp2-5 indicates peak demands have been reported for the Baseline
and Proposed cases; however, these values do not coincide with the energy
modeling outputs provided. For example, Table EAp2-5 indicates the
Proposed Case lighting peak is 879.8 MBH (257.8 kWh); however, the PS-F
report indicates the peak Proposed Case lighting power is 34.022 KW.
Review the energy modeling output reports and remove any demand value
inconsistencies.*

The project was designed around a uniform electric rate of $0.0703/kWh and
this amount was entered in the Electric Utility Charge screen 4 of 7 in the
wizard mode (photo attached).

Is the USGBC comment aimed at the utility rate or is it something that
needs addressed back in Wizard mode? If so, how do I go about fixing it?

Any help / guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Nick,
I must admit I haven?t actually looked at the eQuest graphs and tables you included in your email. So, I thought I would give it a try. When I press the Results View button, I get the consumption graphs and tables for electricity and gas but I don?t get the second page with the demand information. I am using eQuest v 3.65 7158.

Hi Nick:
I?ve attached two screenshots of the graphical reports for this project.
The ?elec consumption.jpg? graphical report matches with the BEPU report. This is what I used as the ?energy use? input on the LEED template.
As I look at the ?elec demand.jpg?, I see where the max kw equals 34.022 with the total being 408.1 kw. The reviewer did comment that the PS-F report said the max kw for lights was 34.022 kw.
Are you saying I should be using the ?elec demand.jpg? graphical report to input the ?demand? on the LEED template? I assume I would I use the 408.1 kw total and not 34.0 kw that?s used per month. Correct?
Thanks,

With results view open, left click on ?reports? tab at the bottom left of the screen.

Your energy demand reports will be listed.

You can use those reports to get your peak demand numbers.

You may even want to check the eap2 tables (excel file), if you know what that is, to check the electrical demand being claimed for lighting, plug load power density, etc?

That would also help find inconsistencies in peak demand being claimed.

OK so? the graphical demand chart does something rather unintuitive by
summing each month?s peak demand under the ?Total? column? that sum-total
of monthly peaks is meaningless, in my experience.

So for the situation you are describing, you should report 34 kW as the
peak lighting draw for the year (number of decimal places should be
consistent with where you?re sourcing results). Either use PS-F, or scan
the horizontal row of peaks for each month to identify the highest value
using the graphical reports.

Hope that helps!
