*Project StaSIO?s Summer 2021 Challenge is Now Open*
*Challenge #1: Daylighting and Glare*. The Challenge Topic is a broad
category, but each contribution should ask and answer a more specific
question. Individuals or project teams can contribute one or more graphics
through the online contribution forms on Project StaSIO?s ?Contribute?
page. Each participant can make multiple contributions and each will be
considered separately for the Challenge. *Deadline is 8/27.*

*Call for Members: Certification Committee of IBPSA-USA*
The overarching goal of the Certification Committee is to reduce barriers
for more jurisdictions to accept models for compliance. An immediate
priority of the committee will be to review current and past efforts to
certify simulation software tools and to certify or accredit energy
modelers and reviewers. The committee seeks representation from various
stakeholder groups. *Learn more and see how you can get involved.*

*August 18: QAQC for Energy Modeling - IBPSA-USA Education Committee*
Despite their significance, quality control/assurance for energy models is
not standardized or common practice in the building performance simulation
world. This panel discussion brings together experts from the practitioner,
consumer, regulatory and academic side. The panelists will provide 5-7
minute presentations on their view of the QA/QC process and discuss further
need for improvement. There will also be time for audience questions.

*August 26: A Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Framework for Building
Applications - IBPSA-USA Research Committee*
This webinar presents a novel semantic representation and reasoning
framework for use in enhancing emerging building applications such as fault
detection and diagnostics (FDD), and commissioning (Cx). This framework
will enable the semantic integration of heterogeneous data from domains
such as occupancy, lighting, equipment, and utility for planning,
operation, and management purposes.

*September 16: Early stage to Compliance Modeling - Creating an Efficient
Workflow*
This 60 minute session, hosted by IBPSA-USA and cove.tool, uses a project
case study to showcase efficient workflows that reduce energy modeling time
from 250 hours to 10 hours per project, while creating a smooth transitions
over the various design phases.

*September 30: IBPSA Project 1 - New Generation Computing Tools for
Building and District Energy Systems*
This Research Committee of IBPSA-USA presentation gives an overview of
IBPSA Project 1. It explains work done on the Modelica IBPSA Library and
other Modelica libraries that implement the library as their core
repository of models. Next, case studies and related projects for building
and district energy system design are presented that illustrate the
capabilities enabled through this technology.

*October 28: Large Scale Modeling of Wind Comfort and Safety Using
?Pedestrian Comfort Analysis? App*
With the advent of powerful cloud computing, a new ?Pedestrian Comfort
Analysis? application has been developed by simulationHub that performs the
CFD simulations on the cloud and provides comfort and safety plots for
large-scale models within hours. Through introduction and case study, this
Research Committee of IBPSA-USA session illustrates the ?Pedestrian Comfort
Analysis? app to assess pedestrian wind comfort and safety across urban
building design.

*August 18: Automated Energy Analysis in the Early Stage of Design - AIA
East Bay*
Design strategies to save energy are encouraged to be applied in the early
stage of design because construction costs become significantly expensive
when the change is implemented later in the design process. This
presentation discusses that a series of energy simulation needs to be
studied in the early stage of design in order to achieve the optimal energy
efficient performance.

*August 25: Automated 2D Heat Transfer using Grasshopper - BSUG Event*
The predominant tool for 2D heat transfer analysis is THERM which has a
toilsome interface for drafting and post-processing fa?ade details. The
proposed interoperable algorithmic modeling (IAM) workflow utilizes the
friendly drafting environment in Rhino as inputs to a Grasshopper (GH) file
that utilizes open source Ladybug Tools to set up, simulate and
post-process unique customizable heat transfer results.
