Within the Buildings Engineering Practice Area, the Concepts Team provides sustainability based consulting services for a variety of scales in the built environment. Our multi-disciplinary team is comprised of collaborative and creative professionals who assist a variety of clients in creating high-quality, high performance and sustainable environments. Responsibilities:
We have an opening for an Energy Modeler in an intermediate level role to provide energy simulation services related to buildings and community energy systems, for our clients. The ideal candidate will have a background in buildings engineering with knowledge of HVAC and lighting systems, building control systems, energy and utility measures, greenhouse gas emission measures, building physics, and energy simulation programs. Exceptional communication skills, the ability to provide excellent client service and a commitment to sustainable design are essential for this position.
Key responsibilities include:
* Support project managers on a variety of projects including energy and thermal modeling, LEED documentation, researching sustainable building design strategies, and writing building analysis reports
* Provide building performance modeling that analyzes energy and thermal performance of new and existing commercial, institutional, and residential buildings
* Work with clients and design teams in an integrated design approach to identify appropriate design strategies geared towards improving energy performance, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort; provide ongoing analysis through design and construction
* Prepare building analysis reports to present results of energy and thermal modeling, greenhouse gas emissions analysis, and research findings; prepare and deliver presentations to clients and/or design teams
* Prepare LEED documentation associated with energy modeling; assist with coordination of other LEED documentation as necessary
Qualifications:
* Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Physics, or related field
* Minimum 5 years relevant experience such as design experience in architecture, building envelope, or HVAC design
* Experience with thermal comfort analysis, CFD (for natural ventilation and displacement ventilation), daylight simulation, life-cycle cost analysis, and/or existing building auditing preferred
* Experience with the following software: IES, TAS, EE4, eQUEST, DOE-2, and/or EnergyPlus; RETScreen and/or Hot2000 experience an asset
* Strong professional verbal and written communication skills -ability to communicate in a timely manner appropriate with clients and building design team members
* Experience with urban sustainability, life-cycle analysis, embodied energy calculations an asset
* Knowledge of renewable energy systems an asset; understanding of LEED building rating systems an asset; LEED AP preferred
* Engineer-in-Training, eligible to become an EIT or P.Eng.
