Role: Performance Simulation Engineer
PEP is seeking a Performance Simulation Engineer for their Chicago office who is willing and eager to join PEP on its charge into the future utilizing his/her skills in Building Physics and Sustainable Design. This role provides support for the Performance Simulation discipline which support the entire firm's other disciplines.
Job Responsibilities:
* Work within the Performance Simulation team to provide energy modeling services for new building design, analysis of existing buildings and urban areas of multiple buildings to assess utility infrastructure performance
* Support the discipline in the design of projects of all scales and complexities for a variety of project types, including mixed-use, commercial, academic, healthcare, residential, hospitality and civic, both domestic and international.
* Analyze the performance of buildings within a campus environment and within larger urban contexts
* Provide leadership in the use of energy and building physics tools throughout the practice
* Work in close contact with clients, architects, HVAC engineers, contractors, equipment vendors
* Work with architectural and engineering teams to conceptualize and evaluate building characteristics, systems options and potential for renewable energy and low carbon solutions
* Undertake parametric studies to optimize design solutions
* Undertake Life Cycle Cost Analysis studies for high performance and sustainable design strategies.
* Meet project schedules and deadlines.
* Active involvement in professional organizations (IEEE, USGBC, ASHRAE, IBPSA, etc.)
* Support the improvement of the Performance Simulation tools, processes and deliverables. Implement these.
* Serve as Technical Advisor to the Performance Simulation team.
* Deliver lectures and write technical articles to help sustain the firm's technical credibility and stature in the design community.
Licensure and Accreditation Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics or Computer Science
* PE license preferred
* USGBC LEED AP designation and or Green Associate Accreditation preferred
Skills & Experience:
* 5+ years of experience in performance simulation using an industry standard modeling tool such as IES-VE, EnergyPlus, eQUEST or TRNSYS.
* Experience in the use of Radiance, WINDOW, THERM, WUFI, CFD modeling, DIVA, Vasari, Open Studio
* Competency in AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino + Grasshopper or Sketchup
* Knowledge of MatLab, Java, C++, php scripting, SQL databases, HTML would be seen as an asset
* Passion for sustainable design and a dedication to achieving its ideals through design.
* Extensive knowledge of digital design tools and processes, including AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office Suite
* Experienced understanding and coordination across multi-disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Controls, Civil, Structural, and Architectural).
* Adept knowledge of U.S. building codes required, international code knowledge preferred.
* Knowledge of and involvement with relevant trade societies and organizations.
* Extensive knowledge of digital design tools and processes, including AutoCAD and Revit.
* Advanced proficiency level with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
* Highly creative problem solver.
