LBNLWindows Program

If a film is applied on an existing glass, can the windows program be used
for it? If I want to find an equivalent glass, is there a way to search the
glass database by the SHGC?
Thanks,

Hi Rohini,

Window does have a large installed library of glass+film combinations. However, if you want to create a combination that is not currently in the library, I believe you will need to use LBNL Optics. The Optics program allows you to combine glass and films and also make laminates. Optics files can then be exported to Window.

I need to reinstall Window so I can't check, but off the top of my head sorting by T-sol (solar transmittance) might be the closest match to SHGC for variables you can sort by.

Good luck!

Alex is correct - there are some glass layers in WINDOW that have films on
them, but if you want to model a film that is not already in the Glass
Library, you need to use Optics to add the film to a glass layer substrate,
then import that new applied film glass layer into the WINDOW Glass Library.
There are detailed instructions about how to do this on our WINDOW Knowledge
Base page under the NFRC section:

And here is a direct link to the PDF file that explains the procedure:

Alex and Robin,
Thanks for the info, I might try the optics route.
Any particular reason why the glass database does not have the SHGC?
Alex, I did use the Tsol initially, but the same Tsol for two glass types
gives different SHGC - so the only way to get the SHGC that I want was to
use the calc function for various glass with similar Tsol, which is quite
tedious.

Thanks again,
-Rohini
