Job/Research Summary: Engineering positions are now available in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) Electricity, Resources & Building Systems Integration Center. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. This position will support residential buildings research and will report directly to the Manager for Residential Buildings.
Job Duties: The engineer's activities will include research focusing on the analysis of efficiency and performance tradeoffs, and development and evaluation of advanced system concepts required to produce increasingly efficient homes and communities. Key technical approaches include fundamental analysis, system and building energy simulations, laboratory research, full scale studies in research buildings, and development of initial applications in field studies with industry partners. The engineer will also be involved with systems engineering research work.

The position will be supporting High Performance Buildings Research and will report directly to the Section Supervisor for Commercial Buildings.
Job Duties: Development, implementation, and maintenance of software to support building energy analysis. The position will involve extending existing and developing new software programs to help other Research Engineer workflows and data management. Primary development language will be Ruby, C++, along with database technologies. Work will respond to the needs of the Task Leader and Section Supervisor on this effort. The position will also provide an opportunity for publishing peer reviewed papers and technical reports in the areas of current research. Center management reserves the right to modify assignments as needed according to organizational priorities.
