Fellow modelers,
I'm looking for your interpretation on which types of evaporative cooling devices qualify for the Fan Power Limitation Pressure Drop Adjustment (Table 6.5.3.1.1.B).
I'm modeling a three stage evaporative cooling system (IDEC) popular to the Salt Lake City area. I'm unsure whether to claim credit for the Indirect Evaporative Cooling
Coil (IECC). The IECC device has a design pressure drop of 0.75" w.g.. Taking credit for the IECC device leads to significant fan savings which is great for LEED points and
Utility incentives. The 90.1-2007 User Guide does not clear this up for me either.
Three Stage IDEC system Details:
Each device in series
1. Zero Stage = Air-Side Economizer
2. First Stage = Indirect Evaporative Cooling Coil (IECC), uses cooling tower water pumped through a coil
3. Second Stage = Direct Evaporative Cooling Media, pumps water directly over a cellulose evaporative media
4. Third Stage = Chilled Water Coil, centrifugal chillers simulated to run less than 300 hours per year
