Hello All,
I am working on a energy simulation model following Appendix G of
ASHRAE 90.1-2004.
In this appendix, table G3.1, under the building envelope category
specifies that for roofs- insulation is entirely above deck but does
not specific the kind of construction. Can I use any kind of material
(like RCC, cast concrete or a metal frame) with insulation above deck
to meet the required U value. Please clarify.
Thanks & Regards,
Sambhav Tiwari.
Sambhav:
My understanding is that you only need put in a simple U-value for the Specification method (see attached Word Document). You then create your actual construction in your Proposed case.

Hi,
As per Table G3.1 of ASHRAE 90.1- 2004:"Opaque assemblies used for new
buildings or additions shall conform with the following common,* lightweight
assembly types* and shall match the appropriate assembly maximum U-factors
in Tables 5.5-1 through 5.5-8"
As the code mentioned all the constructions to be lightweight assemblies, my
guess is, that only insulation is to be modeled. I hope somebody can throw
some more light on this.
