Architectural Energy Corporation is seeking a staff engineer to provide technical expertise within AEC?s Codes and Standards team in San Francisco, CA. AEC has, for decades, led the development of building energy efficiency codes, building efficiency rating tools, and energy code implementation solutions. We have helped our clients structure and implement policies that are saving terawatt hours of electricity every year. Our key projects include California?s Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24), ASHRAE standards, and the COMNET modeling rule sets. The candidate should possess a basic to semi-advanced understanding of the intersection between energy efficiency engineering, energy modeling, efficiency standards, and code enforcement.

Here is a look at the responsibilities for this position.

? Investigate the cost effectiveness of technologies that may be integrated into energy codes.
? Develop energy modeling guidelines for completing energy code compliance calculations.
? Develop modeling rules and data collection guidelines for existing building energy efficiency analysis programs.
? Write articles on emerging energy efficiency technologies and code enforcement strategies.
? Work with clients to strengthen code enforcement, including efforts to improve the usability of efficiency codes.
? Help develop a path for moving energy codes towards zero net energy, including the integration of renewable energy into building code metrics.

Here is a look at the requirements for this position.

? 2+ year?s experience in either the development of energy efficiency codes, the enforcement of energy efficiency codes, or energy efficiency engineering.
? Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
? Masters degree in a related field is highly encouraged.
? Basic to advanced understanding in complex building mechanical systems and state-of-the-art energy efficiency technologies.
? Energy modeling experience with DOE-2 and EnergyPlus, preferably with sufficient understanding to help develop new elements for those tools.
? Basic to semi-advanced experience working with California?s Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards.
? Presentation skills for complex engineering concepts.

The following additional skills are a plus but not required:

? Experience in the building trades and design process as an architect or engineer.
? Experience with implementing energy efficiency codes in the construction process.
? Familiarity with computer programming and internet technologies.
? Active member of professional associations.
