Floor Multiplier in Detailed Edit Mode

Hi,

I am working on a multi-story identical floor plans building. I am using
floor multiplier in wizard mode for simplicity of the model and to keep
shorter simulation time. In the model, equest is showing the bottom floor
and top floor for the identical floors. However, I was wondering if I can
have all the floors *visible* at the later stage of the project in detailed
edit mode?

Thanks,

Sunayana

Hi:
I believe if you make another copy and call it "Full Building" or something, then uncheck the Floor multipliers checkbox Screen 1), all floors will appear.

This is the easiest solution if the end-goal is ?I need a pretty picture? and you haven?t made substantial/visible geometry edits post-wizards.

Otherwise, I?ve used photoshop/paint to manipulate the image where it really matters to someone.

Thank you all for your responses.

Is it possible to make the floors (floors modeled using floor multiplier)
visible in the detailed edit mode for editing (for example, for making
changes to HVAC or lighting to those floors)?

Thanks,

Sunayana

Uncheck the Floor Multipliers in Wizard, then go to Detail Edit. All floors will be there.

Another trick to get intermediate floors to show up in the graphic is to make one of the zones an ?atrium.? Be careful with the zone selection for this if you need the floor area, but an elevator or chase could be a good choice. Doing this truly creates separate floors in the model, which might be a problem with run time and file size, but maybe not.

If there is no useful zone for this, then I suggest doing a ?save as?? and using this ?atrium? file just for the pretty picture.

In the DD wizard, Screen 2 for the shell, click on the ?Zone Names and Characteristics? button.

[cid:image002.jpg at 01D29760.DDF289C0]

Click on the desired zone, then check the box in the upper right for ?Multi-Level Space (atrium).

The intermediate floors show on the 3-D image!

A long time ago (like 1993-2005), I was marketing a program DrawBDL to display DOE-2
building models. Following is how DrawBDL would display a similar 5-zone/floor building
model:

At that time, I was toying around with the idea of using the FLOOR-MULTIPLIER number to
create the missing floors, but that would require the user to specify an appropriate Z of
the representative floor, whether it's at the lowest, the middle, or maybe even the top of
the floors.

The building model would then be displayed as this (done using cut-and-paste of the
DrawBDL drawing, which uses Microsoft primitive drawing tools):

I also thought of adding an option for the user to display the duplicated floors with a
lighter shade to indicate their prevenance. But alas, these were all just ideas, and since
DrawBDL sales tanked after 2004, and my graphics programmer got a real job, I never did
anything to DrawBDL except to add an EnergyPlus import, which was actually quite easy to
do because the EnergyPlus idf is completely explicit, with no shortcuts like LIKE, SET
DEFAULT, etc. In fact, doing DrawBDL for DOE-2.1E was probably the harder thing to do than
for eQUEST or EnergyPlus :-) By the way, I'm still passively marketing DrawBDL, but have
to caution that it works only with DOE-2.1E and EnergyPlus-3.0, see Web site at
www.drawbdl.com . Joe
