I've also had troubles specific to Adobe's site trying to use their update process.
You might try completely uninstalling whatever version of acrobat you already have, then trying to download the latest version from different browsers. I seem to recall there may be multiple ways to install & update acrobat (with and without this automatic updater process).
Best advice - Call USGBC, GBCI. The latest Acrobat Reader is either X
or 11.
