Modeling Moveable Exterior Shades

1 post / 0 new

I'm trying to model a moveable exterior shade system. I want the shades
deployed whenever the outside air temperature is above room temperature
(essentially summer only, never deployed in winter) AND (not OR) whenever
the solar gain through the windows is greater than some value, high enough
to only deploy the shades on a sunny day, but not so much on a cloudy day.
The shades I'm considering only affect solar gain and have no significant
effect on the U-value of the window. In reading through the reference
literature, I think I need to enter a CONDUCT-TMAX-SCH (I have it set to 74F
the entire year) and a MAX-SOLAR-SCH (I have it set to 20 Btuh/SF, but I
would appreciate any feedback on a better number to use), both of which have
to be satisfied to deploy the shades, and then a SHADING-SCHEDULE (the shade
material being considered supposedly blocks 90% of the solar gain, so I have
all hours set to 0.1) but no CONDUCT-SCHEDULE. My runs with these parameters
show changes in energy consumption in winter months as well as summer
months, so something obviously working as intended. I would appreciate
anyone's reply that has modeled similar shades and intents.

Thanks in advance for your help,
