The other morning I was watching the news on the Vice Presidential debate, and the TV screen was panning across a document that cited ENERGY MODELING! Now, I had only watched part of the debate, so this really gauged my interest, "How did building energy simulation [energy modeling] tie into the debate?
For those of you who watched it or didn't watch it. The debate (according to Twitter) went something like this:
Biden: Haha, my friend (big smile)
Ryan : Gulp, Gulp (drinking water)
Biden: [Interuppting] That's Mathematically Impossible
Ryan: [more math than most energy models]
....
[Okay, let's get serious. The relevant conversation went something like this:]
Ryan: Where did all the wasted stimulus money go?
Biden : Funny you mention that, since I have several letters from you asking for stimulus money.
Ryan: We always ask for grant money for non-partisan groups - who ask for grant money from both parties.
Fact Check:
So yes, Paul Ryan did write the letters asking for money for two or more non-partisan groups (not to make a political discussion). See, the interesting part is what happened and how it's relevant to us. Most Notably the two non-partisan groups - the Energy Center of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corp were the intended benefactors of the letters. These are two large and very well respected non-partisan organizations and that is un-debatable. It's very relevant to see what happened.
Let's Follow the money
The WECC did receive 20 million dollars of stimulus money. The ECW did not get the stimulus request, but they did get government grants (around $240,000)
What was the $240,000 primarily used for (by the ECW)?
That money was used to do a hybrid geothermal energy study that was done using ENERGY MODELING.
I seriously doubt that either candidate knows anything about Energy-modeling, or has ever heard of it, but it was quite a surprise to see the words "Energy Simulation" on the TV at the same time the news was reporting on the debate.
It does show that energy-modeling is becoming a central part of the green movement, and also a central component of the Economic recovery of the country (life cycle payback anyone?).
Okay, so now I am handing off... What are your thoughts on this?
