[00:00:00]In the last video, we looked into construction sets. In this video, we will walk through the Loads page. Continuing on with our Video4.osm file, let’s move onto the Loads page and have a look at what sort of information we can find here. The Loads pages allows us to add and edit internal space loads. These are definitions of heat gains from people, from lights, electric equipment, and there are also other definition types that you may use. Note that you don’t define how these loads vary on this page. We define how the loads vary by using Schedules. Note that you also don’t apply these loads to particular spaces or zones on this page. This page just gives us access to defining the magnitude of the internal loads. For example, here under People definitions, we see the break room people definition and that set’s a fraction of 5/100 of a person per square feet so it’s not a very densely occupied space.
[00:01:19]Under the Lights definition, we see a definition of about .73 watts per square feet for lights. And there’s no luminaires defined because we’ll use the Lights definition instead. And under electric equipment, we can see the definition of about 4.5 watts per square foot for the break room electric equipment. So as I said, this page just simply allows us to define the magnitude of our internal heat gains and in other pages, we define how these gains vary and on a different page again, we define where these equipments and people and lights exist within those spaces.
[00:02:05]So just to demonstrate how to create a new internal load, let’s add a new one. For example, we’ll add a new luminaire definition. So let’s call this External Signage, the example here being where you might have a big, bright sign on the outside of your building consuming electricity and you might want to meter that electricity that’s being consumed if it’s part of the utility bill that’s projected for the building. So here we’ll create a new Luminaire definition and that’s just simply 1,000 watts of lighting power.
[00:02:51]Now what we’ll do next is apply that luminaire definition under the Facilities page. Here on the Facilities page, we have access to exterior equipment. Under Exterior Lights, let’s add a new object. That’s the exterior lights. Now in place of this definition that’s there by default, we’ll apply the luminaire definition we just created. Let’s change the patrol option to Astronomical Clock. We’ll also change the end use category to Building Signage. This will allow us to inspect the electricity consumed by that external lighting when we look into the meters that come out of the Results page.
[00:03:49]So just going back to the Loads page, as I said this is a fairly straightforward page to navigate and to use. So what we’ll do is we’ll save our file here and save this as Video5. And in our next video, we’ll look into space types.
