Brightworks Sustainability is seeking an experienced, qualified Energy Analyst to join our team. The Senior Energy Analyst position is tasked with leading Energy Modeling processes for different project types as it relates to LEED certification or other energy analysis protocols such as code compliance, net zero buildings, zero carbon ratings, ILFI, Energy Star etc.
Projects include residential, commercial office buildings, core and shell, academic, commercial interiors, laboratory spaces, etc. Candidates should have experience in LEED Energy Modeling processes as they pertain to New Construction, Core and Shell, Commercial Interiors and Residential programs. The ideal candidate would also be able to perform energy audits, energy analysis and be part of larger scale energy efficiency planning projects.
The employee filling this position will work closely with internal and external project teams. This position reports to a Brightworks Sustainability Energy Team Practice Lead and will be working closely with Brightworks Sustainability Project Managers and different practice areas such as Residential, BPOM and Sustainability practice groups as well as working independently depending on project scope of work.
Responsibilities:
Lead Energy Modeling processes for a diverse number of project types and requirements.
Understand the Energy Modeling requirements for different certification frameworks LEED residential, new construction, core and shell, commercial interiors, net zero, energy star, built green, etc.
Consult building owners and architects on sustainable design and operational strategies.
Interface with Mechanical, Electrical, Lighting, and plumbing design teams to provide guidance on maximizing energy efficiency strategies.
Represent Brightworks at Client meetings and industry events.
Extract energy efficiency-related information from drawings, specifications, and verbal feedback by the design team to compare to baseline requirements. Identifies and documents hypothetical scenarios to achieve optimum operations performance and control responses.
Perform whole-building energy simulation computer modeling throughout the design process.
Assist with incorporation and documentation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing sustainability features into applicable projects. Prepare and maintain documentation for LEED and other rating systems as appropriate.
Write reports communicating certification and energy analysis findings, and design recommendations for improved building performance.
Keep abreast of the latest in energy modeling software and technologies.
Mentor and coach team members to further develop competencies, provides quality control checks and helps teammates troubleshoot energy models. Provide technical expertise for models.
Deliver building energy auditing and retro-commissioning services.
Perform site investigations, analyze exiting building utility data, energy savings calculations, develop cost estimates and written descriptions of energy conservation measures in support of design build energy cost savings proposals and technical audits.
Provide planning or analysis for repairs, upgrades, or replacements of building systems to assist each building in becoming more energy efficient.
Create existing building energy models to gauge energy conservation measure impacts.
Help coordinate incentive requirements for projects.
Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.
Participates in business development proposals and interviews with prospective customers.
Travel on occasion depending on project needs (energy Audits).
Requirements:
Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree in engineering or architecture, preference for mechanical engineering, building science, or energy engineering degrees.
8-10 years of experience as an Energy Modeler
Experience performing ASHRAE Level I and II Energy Audits
Project Management experience
Preferred:
Energy Modeling Credential (BEMP, CEM)
P.E. license
LEED A.P.
HERS
CEA, CEM
Passive House (CPHC)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possesses a thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, green building and sustainability
Knowledge and competency using AutoCAD, Revit, Design Builder, Open Studio, E+, eQuest, Energy+, ComCheck, Ekotrope
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving aptitude
