This person will be responsible for:
Energy Modeling
•Select suitable tools and approaches to analyze building design features to provide strategic guidance to our owner, developer, and architectural partners at each design phase.
•Partner with Lead Building Performance Engineer to determine the right technical approach for evaluating complex energy efficiency solutions for large commercial new construction and retrofit projects.
•Work closely with Project and Design Engineers to ensure systems are modeled accurately and documentation is precise and complete.
•Collaborate with external team members to gather and disseminate information throughout the energy modeling process.
•Share findings through visually engaging charts, tables, and diagrams to make results digestible and actionable for all project team members.
•Develop model input and output documentation and methodology descriptions that are clear and easy to review.
•Think both high level and in the weeds to QC model findings at all stages of model development.
•Write reports and give presentations both internally and externally on findings, recommendations, and solutions.
•Overcome modeling challenges by balancing self-sufficiency with collaboration.
Project Management
•Take ownership over any task given to you, soliciting input and guidance from others to ensure you are on the right path.
•Rigorously document assumptions, model inputs, client direction, and internal decision-making.
•Develop strategies, goals, and objectives to drive towards high performance building projects.
•Encourage and facilitate innovation amongst the broader team in identifying energy efficiency solutions.
•Develop and adhere to methods for improving energy modeling consistency and work flow.
Communication
•Communicate with external team members to set expectations and drive successful energy modeling interactions from start to finish.
•Work closely with internal team members to drive clarity regarding project schedules, required content and level of detail, and type of outputs needed.
•Foster comradery and collaboration, internally and externally, through all phases of the energy modeling process.
•Other duties as assigned.
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
•Two (2) years energy modeling experience required.
•Two (2) years of mechanical or electrical design experience preferred.
•Proficiency in eQuest and IESVE required; exposure to other software including EnergyPlus and TAS preferred.
•Experience with SQL database management and Revit API a plus.
•Experience with submitting LEED project documentation, specific to EAp2 and mechanical design credits required.
•Experience with natural ventilation modeling, thermal comfort modeling, and daylight analysis preferred.
•Proficiency in BIM and CAD preferred.
•BS in mechanical engineering or related field.
•EIT, PE, LEED professional designations preferred.
•Desire to master local and national energy codes required.
•Demonstrated proficiency for all the responsibilities of a Building Performance Engineer
•Familiarity with industry standard calculation methods including, but not limited to, degree day method, bin method, hourly simulation, lighting calculations, affinity laws, and electrical load and power calculations required.
•Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Newforma, OneNote and Outlook required.
