VFD stands for variable frequency drive sometimes referred to as a variable speed drive or VSD. These are used to control the electrical frequency of alternating current, and thus can control the speed of a motor. At part load, a VFD can show tremendous energy savings. At full load, they are responsible for a minor increase in energy.
