Learn the New SPOT Pro as we build a daylighting model, add electric lighting and perform design day and climate-based daylighting simulations to produce standard daylighting performance reports. SPOT Pro? is a daylighting design tool. The sequence of input and output screens is designed to minimize user wait time by running required calculations behind the scenes before they are needed.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Zack Rogers is founder and president of Daylighting Innovations, LLC. Zack is a professional engineer in Colorado, and a LEED? (Building Design and Construction) Accredited Professional. Zack provides optical daylighting design and has a Patent for the optical design of the award winning LightLouver daylighting system. He provides software programming and development services and is the head developer of the award winning Sensor Placement + Optimization Tool (SPOT). He has published work on daylighting simulation techniques and daylighting metrics and speaks regularly on sustainability, daylighting design and photosensor-based lighting controls. Zack has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Colorado in Boulder teaching an undergraduate and graduate course on Daylighting. Zack is considered an expert in daylighting design and simulation and serves on several national committees including the Illumination Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) Daylighting and Daylighting Metric Committees, the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) National and Colorado Comittees, and the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) Daylighting Committee. Zack provides overall project direction and guidance at Daylighting Innovations as well as daylighting design, analysis and simulation expertise and overall sustainable design and analysis.

Archsim EnergyPlus Modeling for Rhino3D
Friday Sep 11 at 12:30 p.m. ET

Register at https://attendee.gototraining.com/r/5658271921379017474

Attendees will learn to use Archsim Energy Modeling, a plugin that brings fully featured EnergyPlus simulations to Rhino/Grasshopper and thus links the EnergyPlus simulation engine with a powerful parametric design and CAD modeling environment.

Archsim allows you to effortlessly create complex multi-zone energy models, simulate them and visualize results without ever switching between tools. Archsim supports advanced daylighting and shading controls, ventilation modules such as wind and stack natural ventilation, airflow-networks, simple HVAC, photovoltaics and phase changing materials. It is typically used for rapid early design exploration where building shape, window to wall ratios, facade and glazing systems and passive approaches such as shading and natural ventilation potential are tested for their impact on the building environmental performance and comfort.

Simulation inputs such as model geometry, materiality, constructions and zone usage profiles are fully parametric and can be coupled with optimization algorithms within Grasshopper.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Timur is a PhD student and Presidential Fellow at MIT. He received a Diploma in Architecture from the TU Darmstadt and a Master in Design Studies from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Prior to his move to MIT, he was an assistant lecturer and researcher at the TU Darmstadt and the GSD. He worked for KSP Architekten, Wandel Hoefer Lorch Architekten and Transsolar. His current research interests include design, performance simulation and computer science.
