IBPSA-SF welcomes you all to the July 2014 event.
Christian Kohler from LBNL will present an overview of the suite of tools available to calculate window properties (thermal and daylighting) and annual building energy consumption as well as an overview of LBNL facilities used for testing innovative facade and control solutions that are optimized for low energy and comfort. Updates to WINDOW, THERM and RADIANCE include the ability to more accurately model the integration of shading and daylighting solutions with glazings. New databases (IGDB and CGDB) provide information on the optical properties of shading and daylighting materials. Updates to COMFEN provide additional performance features and cost estimates. The workshop will include several demo's of new software features and a Q&A. The tool updates will be complemented with an overview of recent test results from LBNL's Advanced Facade Test Facility and a brief overview of the new FLEXLAB facility for integrated building systems field measurement.
Christian Kohler is a scientific engineering associate at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has been working in the Windows and Daylighting Research Group for 18 years. He works on software development of the THERM, WINDOW, COMFEN and Optics tools, with a focus on heat transfer algorithms. He is also involved in the development of highly insulating window systems and smart residential shaded windows. In the past he has worked on thermal testing of windows and window durability at LBNL. He is a member of ASHRAE and NFRC.
He received his Master's degree in Building Physics from Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands in 1997.
