90.1 climate zone

Hi All,
I am trying to do an energy modeling using ASHRAE 90.1 performance
rating method for a building in Mexico City, Mexico. I am trying to
figure out where Mexico City would fall under for the climate zone.
Table B-3 tells me the Zone number but it does not tell me the Climate
Type (A, B or C). So, I followed the Table B-4. This does not classify
between A or B for zone 3 based on the degree days. I also went through
Appendix B2 (Major climate type definitions) page 109. I was able to
climate that it is not Climate Zone type C. But in order to verify
whether I am in B, I need to know the annual precipitation. Where do I
get this value from? Will it be in ASHRAE or any other standards? I
searched in the website and I am getting different values for Mexico
city precipitation. Depending on this I would either fall in A or B.
Would like to follow some standards rather than searching in the
website.

I am writing this story because I need to figure out whether my baseline
would require an economizer or not. Zone-3A does not require an
economizer where as Zone-3B does.

Any guidance will be appreciated.
Thanks,

Yuvraj,

Its climate zone 3B for Mexico city.

This is how I determined:

Used the EnergyPlus weather convertor (EnergyPlus v3.0) to convert epw
file to 'statistic report on input file'. This yields a .stat file that
can be opened up in any text editor. Along with other weather information
it also provides the climate type for ASHRAE 90.1-2004.

However, the STAT file for Mexico City on the energyplus weather data
website, shows the climate type as 4B which is not true, provided climate
type 3 is correct in Table B-3, ASHRAE 90.1-2004. I made a check for
another location, Seattle, WA (King County)- which according to Table B-1
is 4C, however, according to the STAT file on the website, it lists its
climate type as 4A. When one uses the EnergyPlus weather converter, the
STAT file then shows the correct climate zone for Seattle as 4C.

I am enclosing the STAT file that I generated using the weather converter.

90.1 climate zoneHello Yuvaraj:

Mexico City climate is a 3A classification and therefore there is no requirement for an economizer system.

The annual average temperature is 64F, and the annual rainfall is 25.7 inches. Using the formula on page 112 of 90.1-2007, the precipitation criteria is 19.58". Since the 25.7" does not fall below 19.58", it fails in the criteria for dry zone B. It also fails to meet the marine criteria (zone C), and therefore it classifies as moist (zone A).

Hi,

Is there anyone can lead me to resources where information about typical post office buildings in the US can the found. I'm particularly interested in energy modeling related information, such as size, construction, activity area, lighting density, plug loads, etc. Also, I'm wondering whether there is any statistic data for the energy consumption of typical post office buildings in the US?

Thanks and wish you all have a wonderful holiday,
