Whenever modeling multiple systems, or multiple system types in eQUEST’s DD wizard, it is helpful to assign zones using the “zone groups” feature.
Locate the zone group screen by editing a building shell and accessing screen 14. A zone group is a collaboration of zones that have the following common features:
-Assigned to the same HVAC system
-Common conditioning (conditioned/unconditioned)
-Percent area of occupancy types (i.e. 65% office space)
-exhaust fans
By default, all zones are assigned to a system. Default zone groups are divided by floor, and Perimeter/core spaces. The wizard automatically displays the selected zone group.
Sometimes, it is best to delete existing zone groups and start over. When deleting a zone group, all zones assigned to that group become unassigned and appear in Red when viewing the schematics at the bottom of screen 14.
A user may reassign them to an existing screen by clicking the appropriate zone, and selecting “Assign zone to other group” and selecting the appropriate group.
Alternatively, a user may highlight the group at the top, and select “assign zone to active group”
If the schematic diagrams on screen 14 are too small to adequately select zones, a user may click the appropriate floor’s button to view a larger version of the interactive diagram.
It is important to remember to do this in ALL shells. Remember to assign zones to the proper systems.
