3-3 Envelope Edits

Now We are moving back into detailed data editing. Remember, we need to go to mode, and select "Detailed Data Edit". We like to tidy up our screen by collapsing all of these items. This makes component tree objects easier to find later. We need to add some surfaces. This room sticks out. Left click on it and select something to see the room on the left. Create a child wall. The wall is really a roof, and so we select the construction type as a roof and then it's location as top. You will see that it automatically selected the zone polygon and we have the correct roof setup -which is seen in 3d view.

Now, we will do the same thing again. Create a child wall. Create from Scratch again. This time we will use a wall construction and add it to the bottom, to model an exposed floor. This is more difficult to see visually, but recall that the 2nd floor had an adiabatic floor from the wizard inputs. Now we are going to look at our model to setup the windows. We hit ctrl and click the left mouse button to move the building. We have some glass on the north wall of floor 1 because we entered that in the wizard. We also have a door on the south side. Left click here and select the wall. You will see on the left that the wall is highlighted. Right click on this wall and select create child component, create window. Copy an existing component, which brings in the window type. Click Okay. That pops open the newly created fenestration.   X and Y here are the distance from the lower left. We enter 5 for x and 3 for y. Then 5 for height, and for width, we will enter 8. You can see the window here If I change x to 10. You can see the window moves accordingly. That's good. We have an 8 by 5 window located 3 feet off the ground, and 10 feet from the left. Click done.  Left click here and select the wall. See the wall selected on the left, right click it Create child component and create child window. Copy an existing window. Note that it copied the last selected window Change X to .5 and Y to .5. Right click the height and select "Edit User expression".

This is a neat trick, enter a hashtag symbol and then p as in "parent object", which is the wall, then Parenthesis, quotation mark and HEIGHT, end quote, end parenthesis and minus 1. Click Okay. This gives a height of 9, which is the wall height minus 1.

Right click width and select Edit user Expression. We do the same thing except the window width is based on the WIDTH of the Wall minus 1. Click Okay. This is now setup correctly, and we can click done. This is a powerful tool. When we select this next wall and create a window and copy an existing component, it applies the previous math, and we are done. Now we just need to do this on the other side and we select this wall. And create a window.

eQUEST automatically copies the last window we had selected which has the same user expression, and thus the width and height are based on the wall dimensions, which is a common way windows are designed. If we proceed with that theory, we can finish the windows on the building. We will let you do that for practice.  Magically, we have all of the windows entered but it's obvious that we are missing some roofs. The 2nd floor had no roof from the wizard inputs and you can see that right here. We adjust the building slightly. Then we can select the room, although we already had it selected. We create a child component and child Exterior wall. We can create from scratch and click ok. We will select "A- Roof" for construction, and Top as the location. Click Donez We can click done here.

Then, left click on this new roof and select it. We added that roof, but what's next? Here, we notice that there is a hole in the building. In reality, there is an exposed wall on the atrium. We click around and select one of our curtainwall windows. Then we select the lobby And create a child exterior wall. We will create this from scratch and click okay. Select A-E wall for construction and select vertice 1 for the location. This opens the wall properties, which we will move so we can select that in eQUEST. The wall doesn't appear to be there. We can select V2. Now the wall is there, but it's on the opposite side of the building. We needed to edit this wall anyway. Being cautious we select a curtainwall of glass again And we can see that it is selected based on a user expression.

Now we can select the new wall. If we create a child window And copy an existing component It automatically copies the last window we had highlighted, and we have a curtain wall. Except now, we need to correct the dimensions of the wall Once we select this wall, and open it We need to change 26 to 13. Then, if we view the window associated with this wall We can see that the height is automatically set as well. Now, we will do the same thing on the other side. We select the lobby again and create a child exterior wall again. Create it from scratch and select A- E Wall. Then we will try V3. We need to see gray at this wall, so we try another vertex. We will try v4, then V5, then V6 and continue through them until at V9, We see the wall is located correctly. We add a window again. We select the new wall and create a window as before. We will copy an existing component and we can view the window now.  Again, the window is too large and goes from ceiling to floor. Since we used the parent component method. We need to fix the window dimensions, by fixing the wall. The correct wall height is in fact 13 feet. So we change 26 to 13. And then if we view the window properties, we see that the window height changed as well
