Sub-Metering

How do you sub-meter (electric and fuel) a System or an Equipment in Plant? Can you sub-meter each Shell? Which summary report gives the energy use per month by sub-meter? Is there documentation on how to do this?

you can sub-meter each shell. just be careful on how many meters you
apply to a model though. 25 meter limit max. you can make more but the
energy & $ applied to meters in excess of the 25 limit won't report.
typically i just create these in detailed mode by copying & pasting in
from my own set of masters. though i should note i do use the wizard to
create the external lighting power meter so the schedule is already
setup when i transition to detailed mode. then i assign the external
power schedules to the meters i create for external power.

look in the DOE22Vol1-Basics.pdf file you can download from the same
site as equest. page 164 has an example that won't cut & paste here
properly so here's one i've used before.

em1 = master meter
em-3 & em-4 are two different buildings assigned to em1
em-3- submeters are assigned to em-3
em-4- submeters are assigned to em-4

e-tr is the tradable exterior lighting power meter
e-nt is the non-tradable exterior lighting power meter

"EM1" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = UTILITY
BLDG/SUB-METERS = ( "EM-3", "EM-4" )
..
"EM-3" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = BUILDING
SUB-METERS = ( "EM-3-1", "EM-3-LTG", "EM-3-PRC" )
..
"EM-4" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = BUILDING
SUB-METERS = ( "EM-CORE", "EM-4-1", "EM-4-LTG", "EM-4-PRC",
"EM-CORE-LTG", "EM-CORE-PRC" )
..
"EM-3-1" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = SUB-METER
..
"EM-3-LTG" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = SUB-METER
..
"EM-3-PRC" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = SUB-METER
..
"EM-CORE" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = SUB-METER
..
"EM-4-1" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = SUB-METER
..
"EM-4-LTG" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = SUB-METER
..
"EM-4-PRC" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = SUB-METER
..
"EM-CORE-LTG" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = SUB-METER
..
"EM-CORE-PRC" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = SUB-METER

"E-TR" = ELEC-METER
TYPE = UTILITY
EXTERIOR-POWER = ( 5.723 )
EXTERIOR-SCH = ( "Ext Lighting Sch" )
EXTERIOR-EU = ( EXT-USAGE )
..
"E-NT" = ELEC-METER

EXTERIOR-POWER = ( 1.42 )
EXTERIOR-SCH = ( "Ext Lighting Sch" )
EXTERIOR-EU = ( EXT-USAGE )

i'd also forgotten. there is a length limit to meter names. i think.
at least there is in terms of how much of the name is displayed in the
.sim file under the ps-a plant energy utilization.
the example i gave below has 4 meters reported as "em-3 electricity" -
this could be just the way equest/doe pulls the meter info together but
it is not clear to me how the truncation keeps them separated - though
the meters have the same name in the report each appears on a separate
line like the submeter names below ...

apparently the limit is 4 characters per meter name.

* I might be wrong here, but I think what you really want to do is create a second meter (not submeter) in eQUEST. I don't think your sim file reports out submeter energy separately in your BEPS & BEPU reports.

* When you create a second meter - make sure you add it to your corresponding rate structure.

* Once you have a second meter - you can assign different components to it - either by default (to change the whole category) or individually.

To add a quick bit to the discussion:

Report PS-B provides monthly consumptions and for each meter - I use it
in tandem with sub-meters to track monthly process loads separate from
plug loads, for LEED documentation.

Hi;
?
Is there anybody who knows the launch of equest SI version?
It was discussed in the groups many times before; as far as i remember; was adressed to the 4th quarter of 2010 or first half? of 2011?
?
Regards;

Thanks.
Each System and Zone can be metered by component load type and each Plant Equipment can be metered individually such as each chiller of multiple chillers. The Shell can be metered indirectly by the System and Zone. In eQUEST the meter name can be several characters long. The PS-B gives the meter readings. I am now trying find out how to change the meter name and delete meters that are not used.

I still cannot do the metering without getting error messages. Attached is the project (case study for the website http://bepan.info/ ) description and eQ .inp & .pd2 files. I want to meter EACH
(1) pumping station (CHW, HW & DHW)
(2) plant equipment (Chillers, Boilers, DHW-heater)
(3) system serving floors for Mechanical, UG-parking, Lobby, Retail, Htl-Functions, Htl-Rooms, Restaurant.
The project objective is to compare alternative systems (4P-FCU, WSHP, PTAC, ) for the hotel rooms. Metering examples in the DOE22 manuals are of no help compared to the DOE21E Supplement. I will making it work in DOE21E first

see attached hotel1.imp file.

the file you send is in wizard mode. creating/assigning meters is much
easier in detailed mode.

4 meters created:

em2 = utility
pmpi = submeter for pumping
plhw = submeter for plant chillers
flrs = submeter for the different floors.

you have a master fm1 meter (fuel = gas) so the boilers/hot water
defaults to this.

open the .inp file in notepad, you can "find" the meter definitions in
the electric meters section (elec-meter).
just below that section is the pumps section & you'll note the chw, hw,
and cw loop pumps are assigned to elec-meter = "PMPI"

open the .inp file w/equest (it will probably prompt you to save as a
new project) & stay in detailed edit mode. once in you can pick the
airside tab & open the properties for any of the equipment and change
the meter assignments. may be easier in spreadsheet view.

Thank you Patrick. I metered the (1) DHW and (2) Boilers on separate Fuel Meters and the (1) Chillers & Pumps, (2) Mech & Parkg Flrs, (3) Common Areas, and (4) Hotel Rooms on separate Electric Sub-Meters. Varkie
