Does 90.1-2007 set the amount of W/ft? for site lighting? If so is it W/ft?
for the bldg or the site and if the site how do you calc the site area?

Alan,

Use the maximum allowable lighting according to section 9.4.5 for each category of lighting in Table 9.4.5 that your project has. If this is for a LEED project, it will be helpful to know where the project boundary is. If the project boundary is not yet determined, you can influence its placement by mentioning to the architect or LEED Coordinator that all site lighting located within the boundary, even existing street and sidewalk lighting, should be included in the energy model.

Bill

Alan,

The area in the site lighting W/sq. ft. is the building area. It may be easier to wait until you are in the Detailed Interface where you can enter site lighting in kW instead of W/sq.ft.

Alan,

The entry for site lighting kW in the Detailed Interface is kind of hidden. Before going into the Detailed Interface I suggest entering some value in the wizard to get the schedule set up. (More on that below.) Typical values are 0.05-0.1 W/sf.

Start by clicking on the "Utility & Economics" button near the upper right of the screen. In the "Component Tree" on the left side of the screen click on "Electric Meters." If there is more than one meter, select the meter you want the site lighting to be on. If you single-click, then you can make the entry in the "Spreadsheet" view. Here select "Electric Meter - Direct Loads - Exterior" for the "Display Mode:" at the top. If you double-click, the "Electric Meter Properties" window will appear. Click on the "Direct Loads" tab along the top. The middle of the window has fields for "Exterior Direct Loads."

Regardless of which way you got there, you can enter up to 10 different exterior electrical loads and their schedules.

If you entered a value for W/sf in the wizard, the calculated kW will show up and the schedule should be "Ext Lighting Sch." You can change the kW value to whatever it needs to be. If you did not enter a value in the wizard, then things are more complicated. After you enter a value for kW a warning message will ask if you want to change the library information or make this change for just this project. I suggest not messing with the libraries unless you are sure that is what you want to do. Then you are asked for a schedule. Here I have not found a way to select the library "Ext Lighting Sch." When I select "-library-" and select "Lighting Schd" for the "Category:" the options available under "Entry:" do not include any exterior lighting. Does anybody out there know of an easy way to select the library schedule "Ext Lighting Sch" in the Detailed Interface?
