Heated Plenum

Hi there,

I am modeling a building in eQUEST. This building has a garage on the ground floor and the
ceiling above is concrete, there is a(4' high)plenum below this concrete ceiling. This plenum is heated (with condensing furnaces)in
order to heat/temper the concrete ceiling which is the floor for the residents on the 2nd floor. (I know hydronic heating could be used)
Any ideas how this can be modeled in eQUEST.

Thanks.

You can set the zone type to conditioned and apply a heating schedule.

I forgot to mention that you need to be in the detailed edit mode to do this. In the wizard, set the flr-flr height 4' higher than the flr-clg height and it will automatically create your plenum for you. Once you are finished in the wizard, move to the detailed edit mode. Then, set the zone type to conditioned and apply a heating schedule.

Also, in the wizard, if you set the HVAC system to "one per floor", then the wizard will create only one plenum for each floor.

Just a little addition to Jeremy's response, set the plenum space to
conditioned also. Then you will have no inconsistencies.

A balcony is just a shading device in an energy model. Depending on your situation, you may be able to model it as an overhang. If not, you can create a bldg shade. There are good directions for creating shading devices in chapter 8 of the quick ref guide. You can open the quick ref guide from the help menu.
