Domestic water heater

Hello everyone,

I am trying to model domestic water heaters and need to estimate entering water temperature. Is there any database or procedure that I can use to estimate this value? I am doing spreadsheet calcs using hourly output. I would appreciate your suggestions and advice.

Thanks

It would depend on what your city water source was. If the water is coming
out of the ground, as in a well, it's usually somewhere around 50F. If it
comes from a reservoir it might be colder or warmer. I bet your city water
department could give you some info. Or, there's always Google....

Good Luck,
Carol

Best reference I've ever come across (with example calcs) which mimics the
approach of E+ as I understand it can be found here:

http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/publications/pdfs/building_america/44
816.pdf

See page 22 (of 49) for the inlet mains equation, alonog with a plot of
Chicago IL TMY2 results so you can Q/A your implementation of Equation 4
(correct placement of parenthesis in this makes a BIG difference)

All the Best,
