3D model & different size footprints

Hi All,

I have a question about different size footprints. I'm new to eQuest so
hopefully it's got an easy answer.

1. My building has a larger foot print at the first level than at
the 2nd & 3rd levels. Below, you see the white section jutting out at
the north (right) elevation- this should only be at the 1st floor with a
roof over this section and the 2nd & 3rd floors having a straight
continuous north elevation.

When I'm in the wizard looking at the footprints for each shell they
look the way they should. It's only when I create the 3D model that it's
wrong.

I'm using separate shells for the basement & 1st level, 2nd level, 3rd
level & the additional section north of the 1st level.

Another thing- when I view the model as seen below, then the projection
out the 2nd & 3rd floors disappears, yet the roof at the 3rd Fl still
hangs over.

Appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks,

Lori,

If I understand you correctly, you have used a separate shell for the
additional section north of the 1st level. Check to be sure this shell
has only one floor above grade, as shown below:

It is generally best to have as few as shells as possible to reduce
calculation time. It looks like 2nd and 3rd floors have the same
footprint: if so, they could have been combined into one shell with 2
floors above grade.

Happy Modeling!

Follow up to my question yesterday. I just figured it out! In the
wizard, I went in to Zone Characteristics and realized that the zone
footprint at every shell was set to the total building footprint and not
to the footprint of the individual shell. Much better now.
