Appendix G, Table G3.1.1A Building Type area is conditioned or unconditioned?

Hi,

I am confused about Area mentioned in ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G, Table G3.1.1A
Building Type area is conditioned or unconditioned?

ASHRAE clearly says in Table G3.1.3.7 that area is conditioned but above
table it doesn't specify.

If it is conditioned, suppose if I have building with area of 150,000 sqft
with only 10% of conditioned, then do I need to choose System 6? It's
difficulty to have savings.

Thanks in advance.

Ashraf

Ashraf,

As per ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G, Table G.3.1.1A Building Type area is
conditioned. Refer Section G.3.1.1 Baseline HVAC System Type and
Description.

In your Case,

If conditioned area 15,000 ft? (150,000 ft? with only 10% of conditioned),
If Non residential and 3 floors or less and <25,000 ft? accordingly you can
select System 3 or 4.

If conditioned area 15,000 ft? (150,000 ft? with only 10% of conditioned),
If Non residential and 4 or 5 floors and <25,000 ft? or 5 floors or Less and
25,000ft? to 150,000 ft? accordingly you can select System 5 or 6.

Hi,

As per ASHRAE 90.1-2004 , Table G.3.1.1.A Clearly metions that , 1) For
residential Buildings a) If the heating source is provided then the system
would be 1 (PTAC) , and if b) there is no heating provided or no hetaing
energy source is specified , use Electric and other source classification ,
and according to that our system would be (PTAC HP) system 2.

2) If it is non residential and having 3 floors or less than that and less
than 75,000 Sq ft of conditioned area then our System would be SYSTEM no 3 ,
b) if there is no heating mentioned then
SYSTEM no. 4.

same for other cases.

System type is determined from conditioned floor area (Section, not table, G3.1.1).

Note: you cannot choose to not heat a conditioned space, even if no heating system is to be installed. See Table G3.1, sub-section (1.), and reference the glossary to determine what is and isn't a "conditioned space" in such context.

Per Sadaf below, any such non-installed systems are to be modeled as the "Electric and Other" equivalent - referencing the sub-notes of Table G.3.1.1.A.
