Tripoli - Libya Climate Zone

Hi All,

Does anyone know where I can find the climate zone for Tripoli in Libya?

I tried to find it in Ashrae 90.1 but it does not seem to be in there.

I assumed it would be in climate zone 1, but it could be in climate zone
2.

Thanks.

Kind Regards

ASHRAE 2009 Fundamentals list Tripoli, Libya as having 8 HDD 10 C / 4016 CDD
10 C.

So, according to Standard 169-2006, that's* Zone 2B (Dry)* (3500 < CDD 10 C
< 5000).

How does ASHRAE distinguish between Dry and Humid? I was trying to figure
that out a couple weeks ago for an Australian city (Brisbane) and ended up
reviewing the TMY data and comparing it (visually) to known Dry / Humid
cities. Then I guessed / estimated/ made a visual judgment J.

>From page 25 of Standard 169-2006 (probably also in 90.1):

Marine (C) definition-Locations meeting all four of the following criteria:
1. Mean temperature of coldest month between 27?F (-3?C) and 65?F (18?C)
2. Warmest month mean < 72?F (22?C)
3. At least four months with mean temperatures over 50?F (10?C)
4. Dry season in summer. The month with the heaviest precipitation in the cold season has at least three times as much precipitation as the month with the least precipitation in the rest of the year. The cold season is October through March in the Northern Hemisphere and April through September in the Southern Hemisphere.

Dry (B) definition-Locations meeting the following criteria: not marine and
P < 0.44 ? (T - 19.5) (I-P units)
P < 2.0 ? (T + 7) (SI units)
where
P = annual precipitation in in. (cm) and
T = annual mean temperature in ?F (?C).

Moist (A) definition-Locations that are not marine and not dry.

I just learned that the Energy Plus .stat file indicates the climate zone.
If there's a weather file for Tripoli on the E+ Web site, you can download
and check it out. (The .stat file is text.)

There is a small software tools published with energyplus - after the
installation of energyplus, you can find it under:

.\energyplus\PreProcess\WeatherConverter\Weather.exe

Then you can use this software converter your .epw file to .stat file. Then
open the .stat file in any text edit tools, you can find the climate zone
for this area.

But I find there will be some gaps between two calculation method:

- hand calculation in excel and followed the criteria in ASHRAE 90.1

- the climate zone find from the .stat file which calculates by
"WeatherConverter"

Until now I still confuse why this could happen. And at last I choose the
result calculated by "WeatherConverter".

Thanks everyone for your comments, this has been very helpful.

Does anyone know of an energy benchmark for residential low rise
buildings in Libya?

It would be very helpful to have without need to do a full 90.1 model.

Thanks.
