Dear colleagues,
I am searching for a comparative study of models that derive direct and
diffuse solar radiation components from total solar radiation. I have
been using the Reindl model for many years and I am reasonable happy
with it. But, I'd like to get a feeling what other models are available
and how they compare to Reindl. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Christoph Reinhart, Dr. Ing.

Christoph,
You may want to check SMARTS software tool, developed by Dr. Christian
Gueymard. It is available from the NREL at:

Christoph,
There is a good comparative treatment of those models in Duffie and
Beckman's _Solar Engineering of Thermal Processes_ (chapter 2). My
understanding is that the Reindl model is adapted best for south facing
tilted surfaces (ie solar collectors) and that the Perez model is
adapted for more general surfaces (building facades). There are a few
different Perez models (updates that I am not sure are treated in the
Duffie and Beckman book)
Best,

Dear All,
Associate Professor John Bolland of Uni South Australia has been developing
mathematical models in this area for some years. I have used them in my
research with success. He has been publishing his research through
