eQuest crashing when trying to add Heat Recovery

Has anybody had any issues with eQuest (3.64) freezing up when trying to add heat recovery. The system is just a central air handler/VAV system. When I go to add Heat Recovery it lets me select which type of device, but just once I select one, it just sits there and thinks and never recovers. If anyone has had this issue or knows of a fix, you're help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Colin,

I have had this issue when adding equipment into eQUEST (only when I use eQUEST in Windows 7). I would suggest creating a quick model, add heat recovery, then go into the .inp file and copy the heat recovery text from the quick model to the .inp file from the model that freezes when you add heat recovery in the detailed edit mode.

You should then be able to edit the file in the detailed edit mode. I have no idea why it does this but I have had problems like this before when using Windows 7.

Hopefully this works,

If you have Windows 7, changing the compatibility mode seems to significantly reduced the number of unexplainable eQuest 3.64 crashes. I use Windows XP SP 2 mode:

Back to basics: always make sure your system type can accommodate heat
recovery, not all can. I did a brief glance at the documentation and could
only find VAVS, PSZ and PMZS specifically mentioned. Further looking might
reveal that the capability was added to other systems but I'm not sure
which.

An alternative might be to make a separate Dummy System (DS) that just
treats the portion of air you want to recover heat from. Just make it the
return air in your DS.

Hi All,

I came across this issue too and found a fairly simple workaround. In my case, the system causing the issue was the first one on the list. I had tried adding heat recovery on other systems further down in the list and did not have any problems. So i opened the input file and took the first system down the list so it would no longer be the first one. Then added the heat recovery and no problems! :)

Hope this helps...
