A position exists for a Research Associate to work on city-scale energy
simulation models of the built environment as part of the Energy Efficient
Cities initiative at Cambridge (www.eeci.cam.ac.uk). This initiative aims to
strengthen the UK's capacity to address energy demand reduction and
environmental impacts in cities through cross-disciplinary research in
building and transport technologies, district power systems, urban planning
and environmental impacts. Prospective applicants will work as part of the
EECi multidisciplinary team of researchers and collaboratively develop
models for investigating energy use and environmental conditions in urban
environments.

The researcher will be responsible for developing physics-based models to
compute energy and environmental emissions of urban areas and assess the
impact of policy interventions involving building technologies, urban
infrastructures, and energy supply systems. Candidates applying for this
post must have a doctoral degree in a relevant engineering or science
discipline, and a strong background in energy modelling of buildings,
building physics, and relevant experience in extending physics-based models
on buildings to the urban scale. The candidate is also expected to have very
good computational skills - particularly in running models such as TRANSYS,
statistical packages in MATLAB (for sensitivity analysis and uncertainty
quantification), and/or numerical optimization models. The tenure of the
position will range from 1.5 years, renewable up to 3 years. Starting date
of the position will be agreed upon with selected candidates.
