Proposed case - No cooling

Hi,

If no cooling system exists in Proposed case, than both proposed case and base case shall be identical.

Does this also mean Supply air flow, Fan power, coil capacity should be same as the baseline.

Could anyone elaborate G3.1.1.b.

Thank you.

It's not a Trace question, I'm not sure if admin will lock this post, but here it is:

Cooling system shall be identical in both proposed case and baseline case. it only means the system type and the calculation method of the air flow fan power etc.

The supply air flow fan power coil capacity are all based on your proposed building envelope, proposed lighting power etc.

In short, no they should not be the same as the Baseline. Unless your Proposed building design is the same as the Baseline.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Moseschong,

Could you advice below scenario i would be more clear regarding the fan sizing.

If  actual design Heating and ventilation unit has Constant volume Fan power of 5.0 kW,

And Based upon proposed building envelop, lighting power, calculated supply airflow is 4500.00 CFM then for system 5 Variable volume fan power will be 5.45 kW.

Now which Fan power should i input for the calculation

1) Actual designed 5.0 kW or

2) Calculated Fan power 5.45 kW.

Thank you

I've worked on a few heating only buildings before. here's how I did it.

think of the cooling system a future retrofit system. it's separate from the heating system. so you will have to make two alternatives in Trace.

The first one being your designed system, heating only, with the actual fan power. sounds like you created this one already.

The second one is your retrofit cooling system. In this second alternative, use your proposed building rooms/templates like the first alternative. At the systems and plants, model it like you did for your Baseline i.e. with VAV system, boiler/chiiler with 90.1 efficiency and stuff. You can let Trane Trace do the fan power calculation for you, or you can enter number you calculated above. Remember to set the fan to cycle with cooling loads only (Table G3.1.4 exception). Run the simulation (as the Baseline alternative if you let Trane Trace do the fan power calc for you, but no rotation is needed). The cooling and fan energy from this alternative should be added to the total Proposed building energy as an exceptional calculation.

Thanks,
