sustainability-focused positions.

I am writing to advertise available PhD and postdoctoral researcher
positions in Singapore. I am involved with SinBerBEST
, a large joint research project funded
from 2017-2022 between UC Berkeley, the National University of
Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and the Singapore
University of Technology and Design which is aimed at improving energy
efficiency, sustainability and indoor environmental quality in buildings
in tropical climates.

I have one PhD position available, and there are in addition five open
postdoctoral research fellow positions: one located in Singapore under
my supervision, one in UC Berkeley under the supervision of Stefano
Schiavon, and three more located in Singapore under the supervision of
Kwok Wai Tham (NUS), Chandra Sekhar (NUS), and Man Pun Wan (NTU).

*PhD Position on Building Design for Circadian Health and Occupant Comfort*

This position is a fully-funded, 4 year PhD opportunity at the Singapore
University of Technology and Design (SUTD) under the supervision of J.
Alstan Jakubiec. The research will be in collaboration with the
SinBerBEST project (http://sinberbest.berkeley.edu/). SinBerBEST is a
large joint research project between UC Berkeley, National University of
Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and Singapore University of
Technology and Design. This effort aims to improve energy efficiency,
sustainability and indoor environmental quality in buildings in tropical
climates. The successful candidates will join a team of researchers
funded for 5 years (2017-2022) by Singapore?s National Research
Foundation. This position will be a part of Theme C: Agile Design of the
Building Envelope for Energy Efficiency and Human Comfort.

The PhD research will specifically focus on measurement, simulation
methods, design studies, and human factors studies for improving the
colorimetric qualities of the built environment regarding the circadian
(melanopic) and visual (photopic) systems. Other parallel work in Theme
C involves integration with energy efficient technologies and thermal
comfort in order to produce holistic building designs. The selected
candidate will be expected to work towards these goals as well.

*Five Postdoctoral Scholar Positions on Energy and Indoor Environmental
Quality in Buildings*

We have five open postdoctoral positions (aka research fellow), four
located in Singapore under the supervision of Alstan Jakubiec (SUTD),
Chandra Sekhar (NUS), Kwok Wai Tham (NUS), and Man Pun Wan (NTU) and one
located at UC Berkeley under the supervision of Stefano Schiavon. The
Postdoctoral Scholar positions are for a candidate that obtained (or are
in the process of obtaining) their doctoral degree within the last five
years.

The candidates will work within the SinBerBEST project
(http://sinberbest.berkeley.edu/). SinBerBEST is a large joint research
project between UC Berkeley, the National University of Singapore,
Nanyang Technological University, and the Singapore University of
Technology and Design. This effort aims to improve energy efficiency,
sustainability and indoor environmental quality in buildings in tropical
climates. The successful candidates will join a team of researchers

Nexus - Enhancing Health and Productivity in the Built Environment. Our
mission is ?to create knowledge, innovate, and develop solutions to
enhance health, well-being, and productivity through smart buildings for
tropical climates.?

One of the candidates will work within the Center for the Built
Environment (www.cbe.berkeley.edu ) at UC
Berkeley. CBE?s mission is ?to improve the environmental quality and
energy efficiency of buildings by providing timely, unbiased information
on building technologies and design and operation techniques.? CBE are
recruiting candidates for working on issues related to thermal comfort,
indoor air quality and mechanical systems.

In Singapore, we are interested in the following fields: (1) Thermal
comfort; (2) Indoor Air Quality; (3) Lighting and daylight; and (4) HVAC
systems. ?Strong candidates will have demonstrated expertise in one or
more of these topics and will seek to pursue advanced study that is
aligned with SinBerBEST Theme A. The candidate will work in Singapore at
the institution of the main supervisor or at BEARS, a UC Berkeley center
for research, graduate education, and innovation in Singapore.

All appointments are for an initial period of one year with the
