Importing Autocad dwg's

I received a dwg file from an architect who says he created the doc with
Autocad 2004. When I try to import it into e-quest I get an error
"DWGdirect Error: Invalid Dwg Version"

The file he sent me has the autocad dwg icon but the file name is A-110 with
no extension. I have imported dwg's before.

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong before I contact the sender?

Thank you

Try saving as an ACAD 2000 version.

The hidden extension is actually a windows setting.

I successfully import AutoCad 2006 files, file type is 2004 version,
into eQuest. I have found on occasion with big complex files that
eQuest doesn't handle them that well. It is also hard when a 7" wall
has 5 lines in it to select points in eQuest. I will do a "save as" on
the file, give it a new name, open it and strip all the fluff out or
make a new layer and just trace in the important zones. It makes it
easier when you open the file in eQuest to select the layer you want,
yours, and get to business. You also have the architectural file as
reference for all the constructions. I have seen some files with 60+
layers, all you need is a zone layout.

Saving as ACAD2000 did the trick. Thanks!
