Facebook is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our data
center engineering team. Our datacenters are the foundation upon which our
software operates with efficient ease. Building and operating data centers
the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring
capacity availability and capital conservatism. The data center engineering
team thinks from chip to chiller (or electrical substation), determining
configurations and ensuring maximum efficiency of our compute
infrastructure. This position is full-time and located in our Palo Alto
office.

Responsibilities

Technical lead for the design and development of data center infrastructure
Develop design standards, specifications, and method of procedures (MOP) for
consistency and maximum system reliability
Provide HVAC system consulting services to local data center operations
teams
Research new designs, materials and construction methods for data center
gear and related components
Oversee the data center commissioning (Integrated System Test) for new and
retrofitted data centers
Provide energy efficient solutions to optimize cooling systems
Provide and review detailed scripts for change management request (CMR)
activities
Develop capital project budgets and complex business case analyses
Travel to datacenter sites for engineering studies, mechanical systems
audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required
Provide cooling system related Root-Cause-Analysis (RCA)
Ensure data center "as-built" mechanical documentation is accurate
Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies.

Requirements

BS in Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Professional Engineer registration is required
Minimum of twelve (12) years professional experience in data center design,
construction, operations, and maintenance
Must hold high level knowledge of HVAC system, Chilled Water Systems,
Condenser Water Systems, Pump controls, Glycool/Glycols, AHU units (DX,
split, RTU, CRAC, etc), CRAC, Raised Floor Systems, HOT/COLD aisle
containment, Building Management System
Should possess knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety
standards including UMC, NFPA, ASHRAE, UBC, and UMC
Strong trouble shooting and analytical skills
Ability to provide solutions to complex projects under pressure
Must have effective written and verbal communications skills
Must be familiar with AutoCAD, Visio, FLOTHERM or Tileflow.
