How to model HP with supplemental heat?

Hello All,

I am trying to model heat pump with supplemental heat supported by a gas fired boiler.

I connected hot water loop to the Supplemental Heat under Systems-->Heating-->Supp Heat/Defrost but the boiler is not turning on. The start point for the HW loop to support the HP was modeled at 45F.

Can anyone please advice on how to model this heat pump with hot water coil?

Thanks,

I have found problems with the supplemental heat for heat pumps for all
supplemental heat types excepting electricity. In the past I have
post-processed hourly results in order to get an approximation of gas
supplemental heat use.

I am facing the same issue. Electrical supplemental heat is working but not gas.

Can you please elaborate on post-processing item....how do you do that?

Thanks,

Fareed

Create hourly results which report the hourly supplemental heat for the
building (or for each unit). You can also include any other variables you
think you need, such as outdoor air temperature and return air temperature.
Use a spreadsheet program to calculate the hourly part load, efficiency and
energy use of an equivalent gas system. Then add up the hourly gas use.

To add variables to the hourly results output, go to Project&Site. Hourly
results are under Simulation Output.

To view the hourly report, go to File --> Export Hourly Results.
