Sustainability Engineer - Building Services

The suitable candidate will join the Building Services Team in the South East Region as a sustainability engineer with a focus on the application and development of building environmental modelling approaches, and supporting multi-disciplinary design teams with advice on building physics and sustainable design approaches.

The candidate will report in to a Principal Engineer in support of developing capability across the UK buildings operation in the fields of environmental modelling and sustainability engineering. This is a varied and challenging position and the candidate should be able and willing to take on a variety of roles within the context of building modelling and design.

The candidate will have an understanding of building services design, and a strong interest in the development and application of modelling techniques in the support of design decision making. Knowledge of dynamic thermal modelling packages is essential, and experience of other simulation techniques is desirable. These may include daylight/solar radiation assessments, CFD simulation for indoor environmental quality and/or microclimate assessments, and advanced modelling of HVAC/renewable energy systems. Experience of BIM based design processes would be a further asset.

It is expected that the candidate will already have acquired knowledge of building services design in order to contribute holistically to projects, have a passion for sustainable design, and a desire to build their experience on a range of highly technical and challenging projects. They should be a member of a relevant institution and be working towards chartered engineer status.

Training and Experience

Essential:

BEng in Building Services/Mechanical Engineering or similar

1-3 years post qualification experience.

Technical knowledge in buildings services and sustainable approaches to building design.

Experience of building dynamic simulation modelling.

Desirable:

Knowledge of a range of project types and able to converse across Architectural and M&E disciplines with regard to low energy and innovative design.

Experience of Part L calculations and sustainability rating systems.

Knowledge of other building environmental modelling and analysis tools and BIM software.

Preferably MEng/MSc in building physics/sustainable design.

LCC/LCEA accreditation.
