Energy/HVAC LEED Reviewer

At Epsten Group, we believe in creating sustainable, beautiful, and healthy spaces and communities to live, work, and play. We are seeking like-minded individuals to join our team of Energy and HVAC experts in Atlanta, GA. Our experts provide third-party reviews of energy modeling documentation for applications to the LEED certification program, one of the most globally recognized sustainable design and construction certification programs. Our energy modelers also produce energy simulations for a vast array of project types, influencing design decisions that reduce energy demands while providing comfortable, healthy spaces. We provide in-house training that brings our newest team members from "experienced" to "expert." We seek individuals with a mechanical or energy engineering background, experience with whole-building energy models in various energy modeling platforms, and an understanding of the LEED energy modeling protocol for multiple rating systems.

Essential Functions:

* Provide evaluation services of energy simulations in EnergyPlus, eQUEST, TRACE, HAP, or other energy-modeling software platforms.
* Provide evaluation services of indoor air quality calculations related to ASHRAE Standard 62.1.
* Comprehend project documentation of energy-related systems, including energy modeling inputs and outputs, LEED documentation, load calculations, specifications, and architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
* Provide written reports of findings for multiple LEED rating systems and building types

Desired Skills & Experience

* Degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline required
* Experience with energy models for LEED
* Strong technical writing skills required
* Experience with LEED energy modeling protocol
* 3 years related experience preferred
* Familiarity with ASHRAE Standard 90.1, ASHRAE Standard 62.1, LEED Reference Guides, California Title 24, IECC, and other energy related codes
* Accreditation as a LEED AP
* P.E. or EIT and design experience preferred

JOB DETAILS

This position will report to one of the management level team members within
our Energy division and will involve a variety of general functions,
including but not limited to:

* Model buildings using EQuest or DOE.2.1E or EnergyPlus
* Train in areas related to modeling (e.g., on architectural issues if
the main experience is HVAC)
* Document and maintain well written reports on project related
activity
* Communicate effectively and establish relationships with clients and
job related management teams
* Providing cross-functional support to ensure client needs and
internal timelines/project activities are completed
* Maintain detailed documents and progression of work from initial
proposal through completion
* Present project related technical information to clients and design
teams
* Occasional presentation of white papercase studies to in-house
technical teams
* Attend in-house seminars and scheduled team meetings
* Maintain established utilization levels
* Support junior technicians or entry level staff

Qualifications:

* B.S. or M.S. in Engineering;
* 5+ years experience in building energy modeling using DOE-2, EQuest
or EnergyPlus. The experience in energy modeling can be lower if candidate
has a PhD in engineering, depending on the specific focus of the PhD work
* Excellent analytical abilities;
* Good organizational skills with ability to independently manage
multiple tasks while maintaining focus and attention to detail;
* Basic AutoCAD skills;
* Writing and verbal communication skills;
* Proficient in Microsoft software, particularly Excel;
* THERM, WUFI, CFD knowledge is a plus.
