Guidance on process energy savings claim

Hello All,

Can anyone guide me on resources to claim savings on process energy if it
is less than 25% of overall annual consumption for Appendix G compliance
modeling.

Thanks in Advance!

Hi Javed,

For general plug loads, I typically cite 90.1-2007 User's Manual for plug load W/ft2 values specific to occupancy type - these are in turn sourced from ASHRAE 90.1-1989, and can also be found mirrored in other freely available energy codes (see: Washington State Energy Code).

As a general rule I'll identify and separately document other process loads with unique scheduling, as occurring (elevators/garage ventilation/etc).

More often than not between these efforts the number falls below the 25% mark without any major efforts for documentation.

To request assistance for claiming savings on process energies (baseline =/= proposed), you need to be more specific about what kinds of process energies you're referencing, or else those on the mailing lists with the answers won't know to chime in.

Generally, expect to source and assemble clear documentation to define what is typically installed in contrast to what's actually being installed at additional cost/resources. In my experience, this often requires detailed input from individuals who aren't used to dealing with energy model credits, so you want to launch such efforts of coordination well before your own deadlines.
