SIM file displaying incorrectly

Hello eQUEST community,

I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced a SIM file that is missing the normal headers for certain reports? For example, my SV-A report display looks like this:

[cid:image001.jpg at 01D20F66.13961750]

I have tried opening and closing eQUEST, restarting my computer, opening the file on another computer, opening the file with the EQ3.64 Simviewer AND EQ3.65 simviewer, and I've made modifications to my simulation but nothing seems to help. This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the simulation but the simulation runs well without any errors and I get results that make reasonable sense. My other simulation .SIM files seem to work fine. I have attached the simulation file in question which was simulated using EQ 3.65, build 7163.

Any thoughts?? I would have started by checking the archives but they still seem to be not working...

Many thanks,

Hi Jason,

I can assure you the file simulates and produces a SIM SV-A report without these problems on my machine. I'd attach the SIM, but at ~7MB it might not get through to you and the lists with reliability.

Considering also that both D2SIMViewer's from different builds show the same problem suggests the problem is not with your project files or with your output viewers - there's something up with your local eQuest installation. I'd uninstall and reinstall build 7163 next, or if you're pressed for time just switch to someone else's computer.

I suspect this has something to do with fonts in your computer. I notice
some non standard letters in your naming. The viewer might be using
specific keys to format the view.

Jason;

I can confirm that I have run into this issue, it seems like since I went to the new build of eQuest it will randomly do this. I haven?t been able to track down what is going on either. And have done the same tricks you have with quit/reopen and restarting. Sometimes it work, sometime not. I can run two different models side by side and have the SIM behave differently. Confusing. But I can confirm that you?re not alone (or crazy!)

I suppose it's worth mentioning I've learned off-list that Jason Ng's individual issue has been resolved. His fix involved copying and/or saving the project (INP/PD2/PRD) to a new directory and reopening there on the same computer. Could be worth trying for others experiencing similar issues with their output reporting.

With discussion leaning this direction, I feel it may be helpful to point out a small mailing list thread from ~2 months ago that didn't stir up a lot of discussion, but should be on folks' radar concerned with current vs. previous versions. Therein I'm supplementing a suggested procedure from Bill Bishop to have the most current build of eQUEST v3.65 co-existing with the previous build (v7163). If you follow these instructions, your start menu might look something like mine, allowing you to open/begin projects in whichever version suits your needs:

Following is that text - the thread subject for those who want to dig up the full discussion is "Re: [Equest-users] eQUEST 3.65 v7173 (April 2016) - reinstallation;SIM Viewer" .

Everyone:

I believe Bill suggested procedure requires an extra step.

Here's a slightly re-ordered & expanded process I followed to get multiple builds of the same eQuest version up and running:

- Rename the "eQUEST 3-65 Data" folder that is installed in the "Documents" or "My Documents" folder of the local hard drive

[NC: I chose "eQUEST 3-65 Data v7163"]

- Rename the "eQUEST 3-65 Projects" folder that is installed in the "Documents" or "My Documents" folder of the local hard drive

[NC: I chose "eQUEST 3-65 Projects v7163"]

- Rename the "eQUEST 3-65" folder that is installed in the "Program Files (x86)" folder of the local hard drive

[NC: I chose "eQUEST 3-65 v7163"]

- Navigate into this renamed directory, and do a few more things:

1. Open up the file eQUEST.ini in a text editor, and update the associated Data and Project paths you renamed to start:

2. Right-click equest.exe, and create a shortcut to this executable [NC: I chose to name it "eQUEST 3-65 v7163"].

3. Delete the Desktop Shortcut and/or the Start Menu shortcuts to eQUEST 3.65 (whatever you use to normally start the program). Copy/Drag your new shortcut to replace.

- Now Install the newest version using default settings

I think this extra INI step resolves some (hopefully all) problems associated with new vs. old referencing the intended resources/engine/libraries/etc.

Thanks for everyone's input. Indeed as Nick has mentioned I have found a fix to the issue, but Nick beat me to posting it on the list! Saving the .inp and .pd2 files separately and reopening the simulation from those did the trick (as if you would send the simulation to someone else). Although, unfortunately I cannot comment as to why this happens.
But you can all add this fix to the list of little things to try whenever the SIM file misbehaves.

Melissa had noted below that she hadn?t caught a screenshot of the issue ? I think I can help. See attached.

Moving file locations didn?t help. It has been inconsistent on my simulations, but happens at the worst times it seems. Hopefully this ?goes away? soon.

That?s it Daric. Always the worst of times, we share the same poltergeist!

Wishing it away too.
