eQUEST Examples

I just started using eQUEST. And, I am having difficulty in finding
examples of implementing special cases or general cases for that matter.
For example, I would like to see an example of spot cooling inside a larger,
hot room? Is there a manual or reference available that shows how to do
this and other case specific applications?

Many have touted the ability of eQuest to turn an Energy Plus weather file into a compatible eQuest bin file.

But, aha, eQuest cannot fly in metric (as could DOE-2.1e). And the Asian weather file of concern is in metric.

NOW what?

How much money do you have??

(Just kidding).

The forum here is about the best you can get to asking for specific examples. The old DOE-2.1E used to have Sample Runs, but I am unaware that eQuest has carried on the tradition.

The eQuest manuals generally describe how to do certain keywords for certain systems. The eQuest Vol. 3 (Tpoics) reviews the various SYSTEM types you can use, and applicable keywords allowed, including templates of .INP input screens.

I am unaware that one could include spot cooling into another SYSTEM. Cardinal rule -ONE SYSTEM TYPE per ZONE. You COULD split the zone into two zones.

Keep asking. When the experts (certainly above me) have time, they seem to be most gracious in sharing their knowledge. I enjoy reading the various problems and solution suggestions offered within the Forum.

I would say all the "heavy hitters' tune in here.

Welcome, and give eQuest a chance. I feel it's the best thing going currently in energy modeling (this said after 30+ years of doing this..).

Disclaimer - I am not the expert on this stuff, but got the following
info from those that are...

ALL EnergyPlus weather files are in metric. I don't believe that there
is such a thing as an EnergyPlus weather file in British units. The
EnergyPlus -> eQ/DOE-2 weather converter was therefore implemented to
always perform this units conversion.

I agree - I just recently took an EnergyPlus weather file from Kenya (all
metric units), and converted to a .bin file for eQUEST use. When I ran the
weather file with eQUEST, I exported hourly outside air dry bulbs and wet
bulbs to make sure conversion occurred properly. The hourly OA conditions
exported by eQUEST (in IP units) matched what was originally in the
EnergyPlus file.

There are a few bugs in the conversion process separate from this - its
common to get an error message saying "invalid file name". If you delete the
log, this usually fixes this.

I deleted the .INP file, and I still get the "Invalid filename"
displayed.

Thoughts?

I finally ran a weather conversion successfully. I deleted the .INI file
that was there originally, and it accepted the conversion.
