Equest Cooling System Sizing Method

Hey all,

I was wonder what are the steps that Equest takes to calculate and
size the cooling capacity for a cooling system. I have a server room
that is 4,100 sq ft and has a load density of 150 W/ft2, which would
theoretically require at least a 174 ton cooling system. However,
Equest calculated the cooling capacity to be 255 tons and a supply cfm
instead, which is much greater that what I expect even accounting for
15% over sizing. What are some factors that Equest takes into account
to size the capacity? I know that the design thermostat temperature
and the supply cfm have an effect on the capacity. Also there is an
unconditioned pitched roof volume above the server room ceiling.
Would the heat transfer through the ceiling significantly increase the
capacity? Thanks for the help in advance.

Justin

Hi all,

Thanks for the rich conversation in this mailing list. It's a huge resource.
I bumped into what hopefully is a simple issue that I am overlooking. Maybe
someone here can help me get past this. I was in the Detailed Data edit mode
trying to add new components. When I right click on the components, the
'properties' option is always inactive - greyed out. I am able to add new
components , but am not able to edit it. I also tried double clicking on the
component, but that did'nt work either. Am I missing a step here? I tried
looking in the tutorials & the archives, but no luck. I have attached a
screen shot.

Try double clicking it

Thanks Charles, but, double clicking is not working either. This happens
even when I just open a new project, keep the defaults in the wizard and
open the DDedit mode. I also get the error " unable to locate default data
for command=SYSTEM, Type = 5, Keyword = Heat-source" when I add a new
system. Does this imply that I am missing something in the installation that
the DDedit is not working?
