How to create multiple homes within a community

Dear Members I am new to e-quest and I find it difficult to understand how I can model a large housing community. We are trying to model a project which has 325 villas of 6 different types and 5 different common facilities making it 11 different types of buildings scattered in different parts of the site. I understand that the DD wizard allows one to model multiple shells, how do I go about doing this for a 25 acre plot. Also what is the best zoning pattern to be followed when modelling individual single storied homes. Many Thanks. Hi Yusuf. I would suggest a couple of ways of doing this.

1. Create each building and villa as a separate project. Then add up
the results in a spreadsheet, multiplying for the number of each villa. If
the villas are not all the same orientation, you'll need to change the
orientation around and re-run for each orientation.

2. If for some reason you need everything in one model (e.g. they are
served by a central plant, or a common utility rate structure that can't be
approximated individually), then its a bit more complicated. Save the villas
with different orientations as separate projects as well. Then use shell
multiplier to multiply each villa by the appropriate amount. Make sure you
use a different shell component prefix and HVAC component prefix for each
project. The use import to import each project into a common project.

Yusuf--eQuest has the ability to create a "campus" of buildings within one
file. You just have to make sure that your XYZ coordinates for each
building and/or building shell are appropriate within the site coordinates
so that you don't inadvertantly stack one house on top of the other....

If your DWG files are laid out accordingly to the site plans then you
should be able to just "trace" each individual house into the EQuest wizard
without issue. I suggest building each house as one-shell and then you
can label them with individual names or addresses. If they are identical
in size and shape then you can just import one shell and then copy them
into the other buildings and adjust thier position within the site
coordinates by adjusting the values of each shell in the wizard.

At some point I anticipate that you will have to move past the wizard mode
and into DD edit mode especially if you are going to define the central
plant characteristics serving the site.

If this isn't completely clear to you then feel free to email back and we
can walk through more of the details together.

Cheers,
Pasha

Hi Mike

Thanks for the valuable input.

I think the first option should work the best for our case.
Any thoughts on the second part of my question where I ask what might be an
appropriate zoning pattern for a naturally ventilated home. There is
absolutely no cooling or heating taking place in any of the buildings.
Would a simple perimeter core zoning be appropriate considering the villas
are not going to be occupied by more than 4 people at a time?
