Hi All,

I have a RTVAV system with 10 VAVs that serve the building. Some of the space have exhaust fan (such as hydraulic assembly).
I am on DD wizard. Should I model them at this level or later? And how?

Thank you,

You can include zonal exhaust in the zone groups screen (14) of the DD
wizard. I tend to define zonal exhaust (along with other HVAC details) in
the detailed interface.

Oh - funny my response is coming in right behind Brian!

In the wizards you can assign exhaust quantities for specific zones at the zone group definitions screen (towards the end while editing a shell).

Assigning a quantity here during wizards is good for a placeholder in my experience, but I generally plan for giving all exhaust inputs and associated scheduling a second pass during detailed mode for review and further editing, to be sure I'm capturing the correct behavior.

An extra caution comes to mind: zonal exhaust bypasses any attempts at heat recovery, so one should come up with a strategy during the wizards if you're dealing with central unit energy recovery and/or recovering DOAS's.

If anyone needs a refresher in energy recovery, I advise searching for 'Brian Fountain recovery' in the archives. For the current version of eQuest (3.64), I think this guy and fellow list contributors have nailed most sides of the topic down pretty well in layman's terms. There's also a thread from some years back I've personally referenced often where Brian helped me get a grip on how system level exhaust is more-or-less indirectly defined...
