Domestic Hot Water

I thought this should be simple, but I am trying to figure out how eQuest models DHW.? I cannot seem to find (in detailed mode) either where the hot water use is actually entered, or how it is calculated.? The total gas load for DHW seems high (70% of the total use in the building).?? Any suggestions on how to track this down?? Thanks in advance.

The DHW hot water value is calculated based on the building type( office/hotel or residential) and the occupancy density. These are all determined in wizard mode. When I do DHW simulation in eQuest usually I just use flow rate and profile schedule in detail mode. The flow rate is calculated by design documents and input in detail mode with a reasonable schedule( you could find it in ASHRAE 90.1 user manual). I think this method could be quick and more accurate.

The input for flow rate is under the plant tab. Open the DHW loop, and click on the process tab.

Adjust the flow rate and schedule according to your design.

Be careful with the schedule because you're maintaining that flow rate for the full hour, and the flow rate you enter is per minute.

Good luck,
